Richard Gadd has not revealed the real identity of his stalker in the media. Although, Baby Reindeer stalker Marth Scott does exist in real life. The whole story of Baby Reindeer is based on a true incident that happened to him. The emails of Martha shown in the series are also real emails from Richard’s stalker.

Richard explained his experience of stalking to Netflix. He said, “Stalking on television tends to be very sexed up. It has a mystique. It is somebody in the dark alley way. It is somebody who is very sexy and very normal but they go strange bit by bit.” Richard has been through a very tough experience due to that stalker. His mental and physical health were affected by the stalker. He always wanted to tell this story to the world.

Richard further told Netflix, “It’s a true story. In a weird way, I first started feeling like this could be a good story during the whole ordeal itself. It was one of the most intense periods when I was listening to these voicemails. I’d go to sleep at night and these voice mails- Her words would bounce around my eyelid.” Richard has not revealed the real name and true identity of the stalker. Because he thinks she needs help but she is not getting any. He explained the story from not only the victims’s side but tried to cover the stalker’s narrative as well.

Actress Jessica Gunning portrayed the character of stalker Martha in Baby Reindeer. She also justified the character of Martha and stated that she does not consider Martha a villain. But she is a person who needed attention and care in life but her circumstances turned her into a stalker.
